Abba Kovner

Abba Kovner (1918–1987) was a Jewish partisan leader during World War II and later became one of the greatest Israeli poets and writers of Modern Hebrew literature. His 1942 manifesto in the Vilna Ghetto was the first to identify the German plan to murder all Jews, and he was awarded the Israel Prize in 1970 for his poetry.
