1872 William and Robert Chambers

William Chambers (1800-1883) and his brother Robert Chambers (1802-1871) were Scottish publishers and authors who started as booksellers in Edinburgh in 1819 and founded W. & R. Chambers publishing house in 1832. They produced influential works including educational series like Chambers' Edinburgh Journal, which achieved massive circulation, and contributed to literature, history, science, and geology. Renowned for their impact on transatlantic publishing, Robert was noted for his intellectual pursuits in geology and Edinburgh traditions.
