Aesthetics and Conventions of Medical Art (Visual arts)

Contemporary medical art is an international practice built on an ideal of giving people and practitioners an understandable reference point in their understanding of the human body. Due to the extensive representation of medical art in people's recognition of biology and the human body, the contemporary canon of medical art can seem both ubiquitous and logical. I wish to explore how the history of cultural and artistic influences shaped the practice of medical art as we understand it today. Where does historical context gain a universal understanding? How has artistic interpretation shaped how we perceive and represent a scientific understanding of the human form? The intersection between art, culture, science and the perception of the human body as subject matter are inextricably linked to our understanding of the physical self.
