Edith L. Tiempo, half of the Tiempo writing team, helps her husband direct the Writers Workshop that had initially been sponsored by the Philippine PEN and Sillman University, and subsidized by the Asia Foundation. For the last three years the Tiempo Workshop has been running under a Luce Foundation grant. Edith Tiempo has a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Silliman, an M.A. from the University of Iowa, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Denver. Widely anthologized in fiction and poetry, she is one Philippine poet who has published in Poetry (Chicago) , Beloit Poetry Journal (Wisconsin) , and other magazines abroad. Four of the stories in this collection were Palanca and Philippine Free Press award winners. Her critical essays have been printed locally and abroad. She has published three novels, A Blade of Fern, His Native Coasts, and, also in 1992, The Alien Corn. A collection of her poetry is also in the press.
