As he recounts his life, we discover how he ends up joining the Cristero army, practically forced by the town priest.<br>The cruelty and bitterness of the conflicts are immediate. He and his fellow soldiers murder some mule drivers without knowing that they are allies, for which they are later almost lynched. And thus begins a journey defined by battles, prison, and the extreme violence between the two sides, as well as schemes, the manipulation of consciences, religious fanaticism, and guilt.<br>The Sermon of the Dead depicts this crucial moment in time with precision, but not through the leaders or the most visible players in the &quot;official&quot; history: rather, from the perspective of the drafted, the common men, and the anonymous combatants who were the real protagonists of the Cristero War.<br><br>
