Russia Changed My Life

At the age of thirty, Pauline Stansfield had everything ahead of her - she had left her home in New Zealand as a qualified nurse and was training to be a tutor at the Royal Free Hospital in London. Then, in 1969, she went on an adventure holiday touring Russia at the height of the Cold War.

An accident in the minivan in which she was travelling left Pauline paralysed from the waist down. After nearly dying in a Russian hospital outside of Moscow, she made a remarkable recovery back in England - and learnt to lead life in a wheelchair.
