Shirley Johannes becomes aware of a new friend on the north side of London, Lily Northfield. Lily introduces Shirley, a student in northern Montana, to her cousin, Ayano Cheyenne. Ayano is also an American, but living in Colorado. Together they realize they possess an ability to 'travel-plane'. This developing talent gives them insight, beyond their friends, to see that a visiting alien presence in the Earth's solar system will soon threaten their way of life.
The skills they will need to understand and challenge this threat are available to them. They consciously decide to use all their free time to improve their math and science know-how.
One of their science teachers will lead them into a whole new way of learning the space physics they will need to understand the magnetosphere and heliosphere that are the unseen protectors of their lives. These natural shields may play a key role in the trio's talent to rapidly relocate in space and time.
