Roger Rutmeister is a 29 year old janitor at his local high school, and a self-proclaimed piece of shit. Still living at home with his mom, the main hobby that sustains his worthless existence is internet whoring; i.e. pandering through the soulless sex-capades of online dating. Then he has an alcohol abuse problem...dovetailed with a substance abuse problem...and life is as perfect as the American Dream planned it. Like any lost soul seeking refuge from the modern condition, Roger Rutmeister wastes most of his time criticizing society and the system that suffocates him. He also has a tendency to stalk girls over social media, and scheme on how to seduce them. But all the escapades really only serve to help him forget his miserable existence and self-loathing. Despite the insufferable monotony of banality, Roger will soon learn to miss the meaningless mundane life of worry-free comfort, along with the idle stupor that is a drug addict's oasis. Stupidly getting involved with a high school girl's desire to perform a play he wrote, Roger finds himself suddenly under fire as the girl blindsides him with the accusation of rape. Once the girl's politically powerful father makes destroying Rutmeister his main goal, Roger has the rude awakening that living on the edge of a reckless life can have its consequences. He is suddenly forced to try and salvage the life that he despised. From his job at the high school, to his reputation at large within the puny town of Farwood Township, Roger must suddenly defend his character from falling to the unsalvageable stigma of rapist. Ruts and Ruses portrays the struggle of one incorrigible individual trying to defend himself against a system that is stacked against him. With an allegation of rape conjoined with a powerful nemesis, Roger can only do so much to save himself from social crucifixion.
