In 1945, Australian immigration policy anticipated an influx of 70,000 migrants a year. The Australian government primarily sought out European migrants and, in order to transport these people, a large number of ships was required for the task. Australian Migrant Ships 1946-1977 is a catalogue of the ships that participated in this migration effort. The book provides information on the life history and function of each ship, and includes individual listings for the year of construction, tonnage, dimensions, service speed, and propulsion type. The book also contains photographs of each ship.
