This is the story of Dermot Walsh's recovery from cancer. A Wexford-born journalist, Walsh was diagnosed with cancer at 48. As his illness progressed, he developed both a lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease. He battled through pain and despair trying desparately to think positively and believe in his own healing. He recounts the wonderful support and love which were showered on him and his family during his prolonged illness, certain that contributed to his recovery. Walsh traces the rigours of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and brings the reader through the days and weeks when everything went wrong and the times when the treatment came gloriously right. The very prevalent fear of talking about or thinking about cancer is explored, as the author encountered many people who were utterly unable to bring themselves ever to talk to him about his cancer. The book brings to life the terrible shock to the system of the individual and the entire family when cancer is diagnosed. It also portrays this life-shattering event as the opportunity to re-evaluate priorities and find a better quality of life.
