Alberto Morrocco, flamboyant, talented and versatile, is one of the grand old men of Scottish painting. Born in Aberdeen in 1917 of Italian parents, Morrocco is one of a group of Italo-Scots who have enlivened Scottish culture this century. A superb draughtsman and a very able and perceptive portrait painter, he is most renowned today for his still-lifes and his utterly individual and intensely coloured figurative paintings based on Italian themes. Clowns, beachboys, peasant women and fruit-sellers inhabit a hauntingly imaginative world pervaded by the warmth of the Mediterranean. This book, the first monograph on Morrocco, is published to coincide with a major career restrospective exhibition celebrating his 75th birthday.
