Philo of Alexandria was a contemporary of Jesus and Paul. He was well educated in Platonic and other Hellenistic Philosophies, and he was the most important writer of the Hellenised Alexandrian Judaism. His preserved writings comprise 12 volumes in the Loeb Classical Library. In these five Adacemic research papers, Pasi K. Pohjala compares Philo's writings with New Testament Gospels. The papers argue, that the four Gospel texts examined attest that Matthew had a good knowledge of Philo's writings when writing them. The method of these examinations is comparison of Midrashic interpretations. Pasi K. Pohjala completed these research papers when visiting the Universite Sorbonne IV and when working at the Graduiertenkolleg "Die Bibel" of the Eberhard Karls Universitat Tubingen. Currently he is based in London.
