Howard Shaw is fighting a war in his front yard, San Jose, California. He is all but alone until he meets Lieutenant Evelyn Fresney, and the two and their closest friends begin to turn the tides of the war battle by battle. But as Howard and Evelyn develop feelings for each other, they begin to question their place in their own war.
