This book is intended for the use of tourists enjoying a boat cruise in The Netherlands around Amsterdam and into Belgium. The book describes the places that can be visited along the rivers and canals in this region. Many photographs of places that can be visited are included. Places described include Amsterdam, Enkhuizen, Rotterdam, Kinderdijk, Veere, Arnhem, Hoorn, Edam, Volendam, The Keukenhof Gardens, Antwerp, Ghent, Ypres and Bruges. The majority of river cruises visit these areas during April and May when the tulips are in bloom. Although these can be seen throughout the Netherlands, they are seen in vast numbers in and around the Keukenhof Gardens. Many of the tourist sites that can be visited entail a road journey from the river cruise boat. The Netherlands in western Europe is commonly known as "Holland". However, of the 12 provinces in the Netherlands only two, North and South Holland are actually truly "Holland". Only fifty percent of the land in the Netherlands is more than 1 metre above sea level and 26% is actually below sea level. Seventeen percent of the land has been reclaimed from the sea. A discussion of the tulip industry is included and some details of the growing of Tulip varieties.
