This is simply a powerfully inspirational book! I went back looking at it recently, and I saw that I wrote a review for it, but somehow never published it. That's surprising, because I have recommended this book for almost two decades to probably hundreds of people, even recently. To almost any father of a girl, I have recommended it directly. Other times I have recommended to a wife for their husband and possibly as a gift item for him. I have mentioned it to mothers who have granddaughters to give to their sons or sons-in-law. Furthermore, I think Dr. Meeker wrote this at such a proper time in our lives. So often these days, men do not realize their true worth. As fathers, they do not understand the importance of their roles. They have no idea of how much their daughters need them and depend on them. They are not aware that their daughters would grow up completely differently and to their detriment without them. This book can help them to realize that, with some exceptions, they are the most important people in their daughters' lives. And it takes time to be this. It takes sacrifice to be the kind of example and man that you would like your daughter to marry. It takes a lot of emotion and care-giving to be their first love. And Meeker is right, the payoff is so significant. It is so worth it! They are so worth it. Fathers are so worth it! Fathers are so privileged to be able to experience their place in life in such a rewarding fashion. Years after I read it, I saw this book one day on Dave Ramsey's online store, and I began to look at it in an altogether new way. It was there among so many books on leadership and financial management. I realized, this is leadership and maybe the most important and effective kind!
