Jodie's never prayed in her life, and she doesn't intend to start! But fifteen-year-old Tara believes she can convince her abused friend to have faith. Two teenaged girls with diverse backgrounds are brought together by unfortunate circumstances. Jodie James, repeatedly abused all her life, living in the slums of New York City, risks her own life to save the newcomer on the block, Tara Woodward, from being attacked by Snake, a corrupted gang member. This infuriates Snake and he viciously retaliates. Jodie befriends an elderly neighbor lady, and Maddie's love and guidance helps keep Jodie on the right track until Jodie's sister suddenly disappears. Jodie's demeanor changes, and she vows to get even regardless of the consequences. As Jodie and Tara struggle to survive in the ghetto, their irreconcilable differences collide, but the one thing they both agree on is that no one is safe in the 'hood.
