Condoleezza Rice gained international recognition when she became Secretary of State under former President George W. Bush, but few people know about her other accomplishments. In this book, part of the Journey to Freedom series, the author gives basic information about Rice’s life and the paths she took in her career, from budding musician to scholar to political mover and shaker. The text is punctuated with photographs—some in sepia, some in color—and sidebars of information. The book has an excellent time line, a table of contents, a detailed index, and a list of further readings. Although the brief glossary includes words and pronunciations that seem unnecessary, the book itself is worthy of inclusion as an added resource on the life of this important African American woman.
