Despite being a significant figure in the feminist and anarchist movements at the turn of the 20th century, Luisa Capetillo is little known outside her native Puerto Rico. This volume assembles many of Capetillo's plays, fiction, letters, poems, and journal entries from the period between 1912 and 1916, most of which are available for the first time in English. The selection includes the three-act play, "Influences of Modern Ideas", which shows the author's concerns for workers' rights, public education for all people, and the struggle for justice. An introduction by editor Lara Walker provides an overview of Capetillo's life and work, and places her writings and beliefs into their social and historical context.
