Life has taken an abrupt turn for both Maggie Marshall and Max Hargrove. They each face a new beginning in their professional life and their personal relationship is impacted. Having previously worked as a team they have now gone separate ways in order to meet the demands of their employment requirements. They strive to maintain a strong personal relationship and Maggie is doing well on her own in the familiar surroundings of her home town. New challenges have arisen due to prolonged separations, sometimes in other countries, but Max has managed to minimize the distance demands of long commutes with air travel. After a year of getting accustomed to the new situation both of these enterprising individuals suddenly and unexpectedly find themselves in over their heads, entangled in a mysterious maze of uncertainty, deceit, and danger. Their search for answers only leads to more questions. Presented with life-threatening circumstances they are attacked, physically abused and boxed into a corner with no way out. They have no recourse and are forced to make a deadly choice.
