The Bible is often compared to other books of the world's great religions, as if it were not different. Dr. Haughton contends that the Bible is unique because it is the only self-revelation of the One True God that can lead a person to experience salvation. In Part One the author discusses HOW THE BIBLE CAME TO BE. This includes how books were selected to be included in the Bbile, how they were preserved through history, the progress of English translations, the method used to interpret it correctly, the power of the Bible to change lives, what to do when witnessing to a person who disbelieves the Bible is the word of God, and its importance for today. In Part Two the author presents THE EXCELLENCE OF SCRIPTURE with a brief exposition of Psalm 119. He emphasizes the emotional aspects instead of the doctrinal aspects of the believer. Part Three is a discussion of SCRIPTURE and/or TRADITION. One of the cries of the Reformers was "Scripture Only." The Roman Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church regard their oral traditions as of equal or greater value than the writing of the Apostles. If their traditions contradict Scripture, tradition usually wins. He concludes with the words of the hymn: HOLY BIBLE, BOOK DIVINE. For the price of a fast food meal the reader can enjoy several days of worthwhile spiritual food.
