The year is 2198. 85 years ago, riots broke out all along the United States, due to the government lying to the people and abusing them. People rose up, and fought for what they believed in, mercy be damned. For once, the people had the power ... For a moment, at least. Sadly, the protesters' words and ideals were soon forgotten, but the riots and the anger at the government were not, as there were many other places on earth where the government had lied or fucked people over, not that our current governments do any less of that. America, and many other countries on earth, fell to pieces.
We are part of a nation in what used to be the western United States. The state's name used to be Washington, but was considered too American, and thus was changed to Arello. I don't know if it stands for something, perhaps it was an acronym, but the meaning has since been lost. The name of the state was adopted as the name for the entire nation, about half as large as the old United States. I live here with my son, Julius, and my drunk of a sister lives a few doors down with her two children.
You never really know what the day brings in Arello, but when my sister's drinking problems and unpaid debts caught up to her, there was one thing that I was certain about - I must protect her children at all costs.
