Will Nightshade turn into a nightmare? The little town of Nightshade, California, has its share of odd residents, but few horses. Jessica Walsh is at a party on the beach when she sees a ghostly white mare running through the surf. Soon after, Nightshade residents begin suffering from night terrors — and some even die in their sleep. Could the “night mare” from the beach be to blame? Jessica enlists the help of her psychic neighbor, Daisy Giordano, to help her crack the case. Jessica’s sophomore year has lots of other excitement, including the arrival of her boyfriend Dominic’s ex in Nightshade, as well as his upcoming tour with his band, Side Effects May Vary. There are also equestrian lessons, where Jessica meets a strange girl who can talk to horses but is uncomfortable around people.
