Don Beckhart and Ray Keller work for Saul Narracott's publishing firm. When they lose their jobs, it's the beginning of a chain of events that couldn't be more different from Beckhart's routine life as a publisher's rep. Once, on a shared motoring holiday, Keller had saved Beckhart's life.
