Steven Hudson is ready to begin exacting the revenge he's spent the past four years planning. Hudson's intended victim is a well-known and well-respected businessman, Peter Caffery. An anonymous tip leads the police to Peter Caffery's house, where they find the bodies of a local prostitute and small-time drug dealer. A note that appears to implicate Peter Caffery is also discovered. Detective Inspector Winston Evans and Detective Sergeant Mary Giles are assigned to the case, but neither motive nor perpetrator can be found, and as Hudson's revenge begins to gain momentum, the small market town of Kirton is devastated by the wave of crime and murder.
