This book is a revision of Motenai Otoko Ron, the essays I published on my website in 2006. Motenai Otoko Ron, literally meaning "a theory on unpopular guys," is a self-help guide both for men who are very unpopular among women and for women who complain that they have had no luck with men. Since the publication, I have always wanted to translate it into English to gain new readers around the world because relationship issues seem universal, not confined to Japanese young people alone. This book is an easy-to-read textbook for all unpopular guys. It took five months for me to complete, which was not an easy job for me, but now, writing this introduction, I can't help but grin. If someone who knew me in my twenties and hasn't met me ever since reads this book, what will they say? They will probably exclaim with a big laugh how I can possibly write a book of this kind, each saying, "I can't believe it." Fair enough. I won't blame them. They simply don't know the fact that I have changed a lot. As the title suggests, I was a complete failure about girls when I was 20. Of course, I wished I could have a date with someone, but I did not know what to do, let alone how to talk to girls. I was only envious of other guys who had a girlfriend. The Dark Ages in my life continued for quite a long time. Until I was twenty-nine, I was totally hopeless in having a date with a woman. I liked women very much, but I couldn't talk well. I was so timid in front of a woman who looked attractive that I didn't know what to say. I was a typical example of unpopular guys described in this book.
