Letters to Eugenia: A Son Writes His Mother from France and Arabia is a collection of excerpts from the 147 letters I wrote to my mother between October 18, 1967, and February 27, 1983.Unbeknownst to me, my mother, Eugenia Kenyon née Jones, retained all the letters I sent her in her archives. This correspondence was part of her personal effects that I recovered after her death in 1996.The letters document my observations and comments on a wide range of topics from Arabian customs to French family life to American presidential politics. There are first-hand accounts of the Paris student uprising of 1968 and descriptions of off-the-beaten track places in France and Arabia. The reader will discover shortwave radios, peanut butter machines and mood rings and learn about the cost of living and the prices for baguettes, gasoline and airline tickets half a century ago.
