Dropping a piano on his head. Okay, that one was a little cartoony, but hey, they were my fantasies. I started reading murder mysteries, hoping to discover a plan for the perfect crime, where at the end he'd be six feet under and I wouldn't even be considered as a suspect. But the stories always resolved with the culprit going to prison for the rest of his life. I wasn't willing to trade my freedom for revenge. Then I found out last year that Barry dropped dead from a heart attack while playing racquetball. While I wasn't that upset about it, I wasn't thrilled either. I wanted him gone, but I wanted to be the one who took him down. Of course I probably never would have actually gotten around to it. Eh, maybe we should just be happy for the little gifts the universe gives us.ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTICMy father served in the military. Four years defending our great nation in other countries. Risking his life for the safety and honor of others. When he got home, he trained at the academy and became a police officer in New York, risking his life for the safety and honor of others. Spent the rest of his career battling rapists and thieves and murderers and drug dealers and politics and red tape and protestors who spat on him for things he didn't do. But he hung in there, putting himself in harm's way every day, just to have the courts send the criminals he'd arrested back out on the street over some stupid technicality or because the prisons were getting too crowded. After he retired, he told me the difference between what he did for a living and what he did overseas. He said that when he was fighting over there, at least it was easier to know who the enemy was.SEEDS OF DOUBTDon't act surprised when he doubts your sincerity. You're telling him what you think he wants to hear, and he knows it. You're not telling him the truth. You've strayed more than once. Maybe not physically. I don't know, maybe you have. But emotionally, lustfully, I know you have. You've told me on more than one occasion about the fantasies you've had about multiple men at the office. Believe it or not, it's not just your skin he wants. He wants your mind. Your honest affection. Your undivided attention. He really does love you, whether you're worthy of that or not. But he sees you for what you are, and that's killing him. Just because you haven't been cheating with your body, that doesn't make up for being unfaithful in your heart. When you're lying together at night, and he's gazing into your eyes, searching for your soul, who are you seeing when you look into his? I'll bet he knows you're seeing someone else.
