The third in the series The Dreamer III - The People of the Wolves introduces a new population of ancient humans: the Denisovans, who are also known as The Bone Crunchers, as mentioned in The Dreamer II - The Gathering. This is the first time the feared Bone Crunchers have wandered onto the lands of the Old Ones and The People from the East, and the initial contact is with a group of displaced misfits who have been exiled from their own tribe. They have unusual habits and use strange words that no one can understand. After a few tense meetings, it soon becomes apparent that although they are quirky and somewhat volatile, these adventurous young men are for the most part, peaceful. It is hoped that they will move on, leaving only the memories of their lively encounters behind them. However, Karno, the group's leader, has taken a shine to Tris's sister Ru. The men of The Wolves decide to stay the season in order to give Karno the opportunity to exercise his dubious charms on her. As they linger, it seems that there is much more to these people than was immediately obvious. In the meantime, the stolid and steady Bror has already stated his intentions toward Ru. She must choose, but it is possible that her choice could substantially effect the stability of the relations between the two peoples.
