Set in an inner city borough called Raven Heights, you'll find Tracy Brooks. She's a girl not unlike many others. A girl you may have met somewhere along the way. A girl like you or a girl like me, full of hopes, dreams and aspirations, but in this quest for a brighter future Tracy must first come face to face with a reality she has yet to understand. Growing up without the guidance of a mother, Tracy witnesses the disintegration of her family. Drugs and poverty have eaten away at the core of their lives. With all the odds stacked against her, Tracy's hopes of a better life begin to deteriorate. Fortunately she has her older brother Leroy whose witty, metaphoric speeches are constant reminders of better days to come.
Breaking the chains of adversity is not an easy task for Tracy. Her life at Raven Heights and the dark secret she has buried there continue to haunt her existence. Tracy ultimately realizes that in order to find happiness she must take some drastic measures, but is there a price to pay for her actions and if so, are the stakes more than Tracy is willing to pay?
Readers young and old will be both charmed and captivated by the rich dialougue and vivid characterizations of Girls Like Me.

"Powerful...a must read for today's young people." -- H.S teacher, April 20, 2001 FROM THE AUTHOR
I never set out to be a writer. It just happened that way and I believe it happened for a reason. Girls Like Me just poured out of me like a river and I am so thrilled and delighted at the response it has received in such a short time. Anyone who knows me knows of my work with young people and know how I enjoy my time with them. Through my writing I've been given a broader arena to reach out and inspire even more of today's youth. There's nothing better than to know that you were one of the lucky ones to have touched a child's life in a positive way and to have them tell you so. Keep reading and always rise above!
