I Wish This Author Would Write A Sequel For Algebra 2!!

Hands down, this is the best resource available for Algebra 1. I am a private tutor and I am always looking for supplemental resources that will make things easier for my students, and this book is my absolute favorite math book. The first time I went through it, I even learned a thing or two (particularly about how different theorems relate) and I have been teaching Algebra for 10 years! What Works: - This book cuts through the extraneous clutter often found in most text books and succinctly gets to the heart of the lesson. Information is presented in a "question and answer" format - for each idea presented, a hypothetical student "asks" a question about Algebra, and the author conveys the key idea(s) in the answer. The "question" is phrased as if it were coming from a 9th/10th grader, and the language used is clear and concise. - The author will emphasize key points in a brief sidebar, easily highlighting the essential points. - The author will also point out common mistakes, also in a brief sidebar, and explain WHY they are wrong. - The book stresses UNDERSTANDING Algebra fundamentals, not merely memorizing abstract formulas or methodology. - Topics are organized in a way that highlights relationships between ideas, and shows how concepts build and develop. - The author really does try to have fun with the subject, even including an Algebra wilderness game. Its a bit cheesy, but I find most students do get into it, in spite of themselves. And I jump at any opportunity to show a student that math can be fun. What Doesn't Work: Umm. . . I'm drawing a blank here. I think the only thing I might change is that, in my experience, most Algebra 1 programs include Quadratics and Inequalities, and this book does not delve into those areas. It would be great if those tops were covered as well. I've also found this book helpful in preparing students for the SAT/ACT. Most students take one/both of these tests for the first time in the spring semester of their Junior year, ...
