Steptoe's poems concern living African American history and Vietnam in "A Long Movie of Shadows." This is Steptoe's tenth collection of poetry and grew out of a special edition of The Sonia Sanchez Literary Review which featured Steptoe's work. The book includes an interview with the poet, four student essays about his work and performance style, and a long essay on Steptoe's aesthetic. The focus of the essay is on his work as a protest and as a healing force. Literary blurbs are offered by Dr. Tony Medina and ProfessorEmeritus/poet, Everett Hoagland. Cover art is by Noel Miles, a Philadelphia resident who is a brilliant watercolorist and a direct descendent of the abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
