Her own charcoal illustrations and hand-scripted text tell the story of Cindy Ross, enthusiastic and (mostly) lighthearted hiker in a mostly male crowd, as she hiked the Appalachian Trail in two segments in the late 1970s. She has gone on to write several more hiking-advice books.
