One of the best amazon purchases ever, for me. My older son is autistic and refuses to get his hair cut by a professional hair-cutter. I gave him the bowl-cut for a few years, then decided to actually learn how to cut his hair because he was outgrowing the bowl-cut look. So, I went to Sally's, bought a $50 pair of shears, a cheap comb, and bought this book on Amazon. I needed a book to teach me how to cut a kid's hair well and as close to professionally as possible. SO, I REALLY appreciate the extra time the author spent explaining hair texture, the physics of hair/hair-cutting, etc. I found several of his diagrams really useful. A lot of that stuff may be unnecessary for some, but I like that it is there, if you need it. Now the illustrations, photos, etc., are sooooo old-school, but I was okay with that...if it works, it works. I don't think you should buy this book if you're interested in cutting women's hair, but for the generic kid's look, it's awesome. Another upside is that it has saved us TONS of money on haircuts for both kids. My mom saw the back of my son's hair and was really tempted to have me cut her hair...she has short hair and not many hairstylists will take the time to get the back of her hair as even textually as she would like. Anyway, I have not seen any other haircutting book (so I can't compare it to others), but this is certainly sufficient for my use. Read more
