***Volume 2 of the "Masterplots II Drama Series"*** this series examines 327 works of the 20th century drama not covered before within the Masterplots series. The set reflects a wide variety of experiences and voices, and hundred and 48 playwrights from around the world are represented. Many views of American life are presented, from the black experiences depicted by August Wilson and Ntozake Shange to those of Mexican-Americans in Luis Valdez's "Zoot Suit". Frank Chin's "The Chicken Coop Chinaman" deals with Chinese American life, and a. R. Gurneys "The Dining Room" with upper-class Anglo-Saxon traditions. Marsha Norman, Beth Henley, and Wendy Wasserstein, whose feminist play "The Heidi Chronicles" won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize, are among the women playwrights represented.
