The Legend of Red Clydeside

The Legend of Red Clydeside has been intensely controversial since it was first published in 1983. Iain McLean argues that most of the influence of legendary Marxists like John McLean and Willie Gallacher, who confronted Lloyd George's government during the First World War and led Lenin and Bonar Law to believe that Glasgow was close to revolution, was just that - a legend. The real Red Clydeside was less showy and more complex. Its influence on housing policy is with us to this day.
