If one accepts the basic premise of the sociology of knowledge, that our truths are culturally produced and our values culturally relative, then doing theology becomes a problem. Theology wishes to retain disciplinary autonomy but the sociology of knowledge is no great respecter of boundaries that we erect between different kinds of knowledge.
