Pinkerton doesn't understand his owner's commands. When told to come, he jumps out the window. When asked to fetch the newspaper, he destroys it. Pinkerton's desperate owner sends him to obedience school, but he flunks out in record time. Then one night a burglar breaks into their house, and Pinkerton is able to put his bad habits to good use.

"Humor abounds in this exuberant tale . . . An Update to the Classic

I love that Steven Kellogg went back and redrew the artwork for this 35th anniversary edition! While it never bothered me as a child because I only ever remember looking at the pictures of Pinkerton (I loved the dog - I barely paid attention to the background images until recently), I'm sure there have been people who were upset about the robber toward the end of the book. Put your worries at ease! The author & illustrator specifically changed it so the robber is only holding a flashlight. I loved these books as a kid and would highly recommend the stories! The antics of the lovable Pinkerton are hilarious, and Kellogg's illustrations are marvelous. If you're still worried about the robber in this story, check out the other Pinkerton books for your kiddos. They're all fantastic (my favorite is Prehistoric Pinkerton). Read more
