The title of this suite of pieces for solo guitar translates as "Intonation and Four Sound-and-Image Compositions for Guitar Solo to paintings by Xiaobai Su." Impressed by the composition of colors in the art of Xiaobai Su of Wuhan, China, Dietmar Ungerank transcribed four of his paintings into music, using the Chinese mode known since the fourth century B.C. as the five "sheng." These five "sheng" make up a 5-tone scale without half steps. Even in prehistoric times an equivalent to the five "sheng" can be found, a musical expression reflecting the descriptions of characteristic features in reality. In the last movement, "Land Circus," he employed themes and motives from a native Chinese melody. Notation only.
