Gr. 4-7. Readers wanting books about the December 2004 Asian tsunami will find a chapter dedicated to it in this attractive and straightforward volume from the new Disaster and Survival series. Although the book doesn't flow from chapter to chapter or delve very deeply into details of either the science or the personal devastation caused by quakes, it does provide simple, effective overviews of some major quakes and incorporates personal accounts by survivors. Illustrations include dramatic full-color photos, as well as maps and diagrams, which are helpful but sparse. Back matter includes thorough chapter notes, a glossary, a further reading list, and a fascinating chart on the 10 deadliest earthquakes, including the December 2004 tragedy.
