Hawke's Special Forces Survival Handbook is NOT a warmed over Army manual rewritten by a desk jockey or mall Ninja whose survival experience is limited to reading about it. This is the best single source book on the practicalities of survival available. Written by Mykel Hawke, a former Special Forces (Green Beret) Captain who has been deployed in places most people will never see, or want to, places where the average person from American society wouldn't last a day. He writes from years of the best training in the world and from deep knowledge and experience. You can read any survival book and get an idea of how friction fire works.
