The TRUTH About Survival

Hawke's Special Forces Survival Handbook is NOT a warmed over Army manual rewritten by a desk jockey or mall Ninja whose survival experience is limited to reading about it. This is the best single source book on the practicalities of survival available. Written by Mykel Hawke, a former Special Forces (Green Beret) Captain who has been deployed in places most people will never see, or want to, places where the average person from American society wouldn't last a day. He writes from years of the best training in the world and from deep knowledge and experience. Captain Hawke tells the TRUTH in this book, tells the reality behind the survival methods that others gloss over. For example: friction fire. You can read any survival book and get an idea of how friction fire works. Only in this book do we read that igniting a fire by friction is hard, and requires sweat, muscle and persistence and will likely result in blisters and frustration for the inexperienced. Examples like this, and to overcome the difficulties, are in every chapter and almost on every page. The chapter on first aid, emergency medical treatment, is alone worth the price of this book. Captain Hawke is a fully qualified, and highly experienced, Special Forces medic. Most people have no idea what this really means. I'll cut to the chase on this point. I served with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 7th Special Forces many years ago, and from that experience I will tell anyone that in many cases I would rather be treated by a SF medic than an MD. These guys know emergency treatment like few MDs do. They can deliver a baby, diagnose and treat typhoid or anaphylactic shock, repair a compound fracture or save a life by treating a sucking chest wound with total competence, and faster than many MDs can prescribe aspirin for a headache. Read this book, believe it, learn from it, and survive. It's written by the best. Read more
