Gr 4-8-Numerous color illustrations, interesting format, and easy-to-read font size are characteristic of these handsome books. Each chapter concentrates on a different aspect of everyday life such as early settlers, home life, childhood, religion, difficulties, and amusements. Sidebars highlight related material and a recipe is included for each region. While there is little emphasis on actual historical events in the narratives, chronologies are appended. Bright, high-quality reproductions appear on almost every double-page spread. A number of color photographs of reenactments of Colonial life are included, with photo credits on the verso of the title page in each volume. Most of the information in these volumes can be found elsewhere. However, the attractive arrangement in single volumes by geographic area gives this series a unique angle.
