From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 3-For basic information, for first reports, and for children just interested in farm animals, these books are a good choice. The texts are brief-two or three sentences per page-but clear, and details are simply explained. Excellent-quality, large, full-color photographs fill two-thirds of each page and follow the growth of the animals. For example, the camera has captured chicks emerging from their eggs; subsequent pictures show them with fluffy down, and then with their first real wing feathers. Several photos show the interaction of farmers and vets with the animals. Both free-range and confined animals are represented. The books give readers a well-rounded view of each species. Glossary definitions are uncomplicated. For instance, "breeding" is defined as "male and female produce young." Books, videos, addresses, and Web sites listed for further information are well chosen and age appropriate for young students.-Carolyn Janssen, Children's Learning Center of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, OH Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.
