"Just Over the Hill the Sun IS Shining" is a story of a shy Swedish eighteen year old girl who came to America to help her married sister run the privately owned boardinghouse. The boarders were miners who worked in a nearby ore mine in Upper Michigan. Maria was raised by strict but loving parents. They lived in a small hamlet in the foothills that separated Sweden and Norway. She left Sweden at the turn of the nineteenth century with her chaperon, an old friend of the family, to help her sister run the boardinghouse. The story brings out her laughter, tears, understanding, love, her philosophy, the many obstacles that faced her as an immigrant and raising her family of six children.
