VOYA, June 2014 (Vol. 37, No. 2)
- Amanda Fensch
The only survivor of a horrific tragedy, Gordie is struggling with the impacts of guilt, depression, and readjustment to a normal life. His nightmares take him back to the evening when his mother drove the family car into a river, killing everyone but him, and the only people keeping him from losing it completely are his half-brother, Kevin, and Kevin's father. Now, five years later, Gordie's father, who abandoned him after everything that happened, wants visitation rights. Gordie finds himself caught between his need for closure and the knowledge that his father was the one who pushed his mother to the edge, and he fears that letting his father back into his life will make him lose what little grasp he has on reality.
