The Gardeners Year

In this text, John Ferguson and Berkhard Mucke describe a unique approach to gardening in which the rhythm of nature is used to divide the year into nine seasons - pre-spring, early spring, spring, early summer, midsommer, later summer, early autumn, autumn and winter. Each of these is marked by an easily observed natural signal - such as snowdrop flowers for pre-spring. Each season is described and illustrated with specially commissioned photographs and step-by-step illustrations show seasonal tasks. Thus, whatever the variations in climate and conditions in different regions, no matter how "unseasonal" the weather, all gardeners can be certain of pruning roses or planting bulbs at the best time.
