When Kathryn Lyall's old school friend, Cara, dies tragically in a car crash, Kathryn is asked to go to Brongarew in Wales to look after Perdita, Cara's seven year-old daughter. Kathryn is to stay with Perdita and her father, Matthew, until the little girl feels more secure, when Kathryn will take her to be reunited with her Spanish relatives. In Brongarew, Kathryn and Matthew become very attracted to each other, but then suspicions arise about Cara's death.
