Private Gollantz (The Gollantz saga)

An absorbing tale of love and honour, of betrayal and self- sacrifice, PRIVATE GOLLANTZ follows the story of the colourful Jewish Gollantz family through the uneasy thirties and the turbulent years of World War II. Emmanuel Gollantz is once again happily settled in Milan, his antique galleries as justly famous as those of his father in London. But the rise of Fascism and Jewish persecution among the ensuing changes in his beloved Italy fill him with growing apprehension, and, increasingly concerned for the happiness of his young son, Simeon, he deckles to return to England. Though no natural soldier, Emmanuel joins the army with no feeling of sacrifice; but in England he is faced, too, with the tradition of Ordingly, with the resentment of his jealous brother, , Julian, with the love of two very different women, and with the problem of 'hating Fascism, yet still laving the Italy in which it reigns.
