From School Library Journal Grade 4-8-- Fritz, Helen, and their cousin Tubs discover Uncle Grigorian really isn't human when they visit his farm in Wales. He has recruited the three children to give an unbiased judgment on an interplanetary dispute. With the special "powers" he has given them, the twins and Tubs learn that both sides want to exploit a newly discovered planet inhabited by huge, gentle worms. After traveling to the worm planet and being captured by a traitor, the trio figures out that the whole planet is alive and communicates with the gigantic intelligence. The straightforward plot is accessible, and the scientific concepts are clearly presented. Each of the three main characters is a fully developed individual with likable faults and believable powers. In this, it succeeds better than the Asimovs' "Norby" series (Walker) with which it shares the rare quality of being real science fiction for young readers. An exciting jacket will attract readers who are unaware of Follett's reputation as an adult author. --Carolyn Caywood, Virginia Beach Public LibraryCopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.
