While 'Little Angels' is a fictional story and a largely comedic take on horrific events, it is based on the true events and experiences of a friend "Eggy" a fictional character for the privacy and protection of the real victim, who had already endured years of brutal torture, mistreatment and attempted murder by and at the hands of the 'men of the cloth' in a Christian brothers reformatory school (or borstal) into which he was sent to for two years for the theft of a packet of sweets, when friends dared him to in youthful high jinks, at the tender age of 15 in 1953.'Eggy' had to further endure decades of mental and physical illness, alone, as a result of his time there when friends and family warned him to keep his mouth shut about his ordeal or the state would lock him up for what at the time was a ludicrous claim to make against the good Christian men of the church. On Eggy's attempted murder by the brothers, his life was only saved when siblings in their early teens, took the massive journey from Cork to Daingean, Offaly. That journey was cycled over a period of three days as motorways did not exist at that time, however, on arrival the siblings were forced to wait a further three more days while Christian brothers concocted a story, cleaned up the filth his body had endured for 5 days of being thrown into a pigsty to die, and waited for Eggy's injuries to heal before allowing him to be seen by another living soul. Eggy was warned of the ramifications of telling anyone of his ordeal before the visit could take place However, when the truth began to come to light in 1990's Ireland of widescale abuse, torture, paedophilia and even murder at the hands of the church, Eggy had to endure years of yet more mental and physical torture through the Irish courts and the endless stream of lies put forth by the Irish church and state, cross examinations by solicitors and barristers on behalf of the church who attempted to place constant doubt on every aspect of his entire story and rubbish every part of his claims, as they did with thousands of others. When he proved his case, he was given a paltry sum for compensation in comparison to others who received up to ten times his final settlement, as it was agreed by the court to defence argument that Eggy had clearly managed to get on with his life largely unaffected by his mistreatment as he had married and had children with his wife. Eggy will no longer talk of his experiences, and though in his 80's, still endures hell on earth with endless nightmares and flashbacks to his experiences.
