Interfacing and Scientific Computing on Personal Computers

This interactive lecture-lab text aims to help students understand how computers may be used for data acquisition, data treatment and analysis and graphics display. The text demonstrates basic concepts, explains jargon and presents concrete examples. The experiments and problems are designed to give the reader the skills to begin interfacing and automating many instruments and systems. The text is built around the IBM PC and compatibles and is a fully integrated lecture-laboratory text. It treats important topics in data acquisition, manipulation and fitting, including digital filtering, non-linear least squares fitting and Monte Carlo methods.
